7th Straight Loss for Lakers

Last night’s loss to the Denver Nuggets puts the Los Angeles Lakers’ record at 33-32 at this point in the season.  The Nuggets pulled away from the Lakers in the second half, handing them a 113-86 embarrassment.

This loss came after another 20-plus point flogging by the Dallas Mavericks on Monday at the Staples Center.  The Lakers play tonight at home.  They’ll be hoping that they can stop the hemorrhaging against the (26-38) Portland Trail Blazers.

If you thought the return of Luke Walton and Lamar Odom would help at all, think again.  Neither provided anything worthwhile for the Lakers.  A visibly winded Odom didn’t score at all in the second half.  Walton managed 13 points and 7 rebounds in 26 minutes, but couldn’t stop the Nuggets from getting to the basket at will.  Neither could anybody else.

Things look grim for the Lakers right now, but hopefully, if you get some sweet Lakers tickets at StubHub.com, you will get a chance to see the Lakers get back on track just before the playoffs.

Jackson Mouths off about Mouthing Off Fine

The Lakers’ head coach Phil Jackson had a rough day yesterday.  He was fined $50,000 by the NBA for his inflammatory remarks about the league’s alleged “vendetta” against Kobe Bryant, and then lost his first-ever seventh straight game as a coach.

Though the fine is probably pocket change for a 17-year NBA head coach, who will make roughly $30 million in his 5 year contract with the Lakers, the loss will probably irk him more.

Jackson was fined earlier in the season for remarks he made about the officials in a game against the Utah Jazz.  Still, the Lakers coach couldn’t help but take another jab at the NBS League Office.

Said Jackson, “I thought you only get fined for criticizing officiating. They’re the sacred cows. But I find out somebody else has a sacred cow somewhere else.”

The defeat at the hands of the Nuggets puts the Lakers at just one games above .500, and still falling.  Check out Lakers tickets at StubHub.com if you want a first-hand look at a team on the brink.

NBA Fines Lakers’ Jackson

Phil Jackson received an official reprimand and a $50,000 fine from the NBA yesterday for his comments about an apparent “witch hunt” against Kobe Bryant.  Kobe, who has been the focus of much “dirty player” scuttlebutt among the media, called such claims “ridiculous.”

Jackson and Bryant defended their actions and elbows in a media conference Wednesday, reiterating Kobe’s innocence amid recent league-mandated suspensions and a retroactively assessed flagrant foul.

Said Kobe Bryant, “It’s insulting. I don’t need to be a dirty player. If you talk to my teammates, talk to other coaches, talk to other players, they all say the same thing. It’s just something that people want to continue to talk about, no matter how many players say I’m not (dirty).”

Kobe could be referring to the shared comments last week of Korver, Jaric and Ginobili, the three players involved in the elbowing incidents, who have stated that they didn’t believe Kobe’s actions deserved any punishment outside of an offensive foul.

Of course, players in professional sports will often times downplay the offenses of fellow athletes, so as not to create enemies on the court or sound like a crybaby.

Walton, Odom to Return vs. Denver

The Lakers return to action tonight against the Denver Nuggets with a few familiar bodies back in uniform.  Lamar Odom and Luke Walton are both expected to play, perhaps even start in their first games back from injury.

Luke Walton might start because Brian Cook is hampered by an injured ankle.  Walton will probably test his own ankle as the game progresses, and will want to keep his muscles and ligaments from cooling off.

Lamar Odom knows that at times his sore shoulder will be painful while performing certain maneuvers.  He will attempt to play through pain for the sake of the Lakers until his body fully recovers, as he simply cannot sit on the bench and watch his team fall any farther.

Lakers tickets to the Portland game on Friday could allow you to see the home game return of two players the Lakers have definitely missed in the past few weeks. Of course, if Walton and Odom re-injure themselves, StubHub.com might not be selling Lakers playoff tickets this year.

Lakers Face A.I., Mello on Thursday

Tomorrow the L.A. Lakers play the Denver Nuggets in a game that will be watched to see if Kobe can avoid throwing an elbow, and if the Lakers can avoid losing six-straight games for the second time in Phil Jackson’s coaching career.

The Nuggets are a 31-31 team, and are led by two elite scorers in Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony, who combine for almost two thirds of the Nuggets’ points per game.

Luke Walton and Lamar Odom are expected to return to action, but expectations for the two Lakers’ forwards remain low for their first game back.

“Our team is not about having the best talent in the world. Our team is built on chemistry and guys knowing how to play together,” ironically quipped Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant. “So when you take three starters out of the lineup and insert guys who are new to these concepts, it makes it difficult.”

StubHub.com is your source for great Lakers tickets, but you’ll have to wait until the Lake Show returns from Denver to face Portland on Friday to get them.

More NBA Reviews for Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson called the NBA’s securitization of Kobe Bryant’s elbows tantamount to a “witch hunt” yesterday.  Jackson had several things to say about the reassessment of Bryant’s controversial new moves.  Needless to say, Jackson’s own comments are now under review by the NBA.

After Kobe was retroactively assessed a flagrant 1 foul the other day, Mr. Bryant skipped an optional practice and then dodged the media.  Phil Jackson, however, shot off at the mouth defending his superstar.

Said Jackson, “It shouldn’t have even been a flagrant 1. That’s crazy. That’s a vendetta. They have a witch hunt going on. That’s nuts…. Everybody does that in this league.”

First off, for what reason would the NBA have a “vendetta” against Kobe?  Because he makes them a lot of money?  Perfect reasoning.  Actually, it seems rather counterproductive for a league that makes money selling Lakers tickets to suspend the Lakers’ biggest draw.

Secondly, If it is a “witch hunt” for elbow throwers, and “everybody” is doing the same thing Kobe is doing, wouldn’t that mean a lot more players would be getting the same scrutiny as Kobe?

Perhaps the “Zen Master” misspoke, but perhaps also his idea about a conspiracy is poppycock.

Tickets to the next Lakers game could be interesting if any regular player gets in the way of untouchable Kobe Bryant.  Check out StubHub.com for ring-side seats.

Will Injured Lakers Help vs Denver?

Lamar Odom and Luke Walton returned to practice yesterday.  Both Los Angeles Lakers players are hoping to get playing time in Thursday’s game versus the Denver Nuggets.

Lamar Odon injured his shoulder weeks ago and has been slowly getting back to full strength.  Some critics have wondered if Odom will be aggressive in both attacking and defending the basket when he gets back into the starting lineup.  In his previous return from injury, Odom chose to play more around the perimeter, and seemed tentative on offense.

Walton’s injured ankle was bothersome at the tail end of a few practice scrimmages yesterday, but he still plans on playing versus the Nuggets.  He was realistic about the team’s outlook when he and Odom come back.

Said Walton, “It’s not that simple. We’re not playing like a team right now. Just throwing guys back in there is not going to make it happen. It’ll help, because I think Lamar and I are both very unselfish players, but we’ve got to do it as a team.”

To see the Odom and Walton in their returning games, LA area fans will have to wait to get Lakers tickets to the Portland game on Friday.  Check out StubHub.com for a chance to see the Lakers faces you remember from a few months ago, if not the same team.

Mavs Humiliate Lakers

In one of the worst Lakers loses ever at the Staples Center, the Lakers were crushed 108-72 by the red-hot Mavericks last night in their first game home from their disappointing four game-four loss road trip.

The Dallas Mavericks, coming off several days rest, extended their winning streak to 17 games- a franchise record and the best in the NBA this season.  The Lakers, on the other hand, earned their sixth straight loss and have only won 3 of their last 15 games.

Though Kobe changed things up slightly by not elbowing anybody this time, the result was all too familiar these days: a humiliating loss with a bunch of forwards on the bench.

The Lakers hit the road again on Thursday to face Denver, but after that you can get Lakers tickets at StubHub.com to the Portland game on Friday.  If the Lakers lose both of those, though, they will find themselves at .500.

Bryant Elbows, Lakers Lose, Again

Lakers guard Kobe Bryant was retroactively assessed a flagrant foul following review of a play during the Lakers loss to the 76ers on Friday night.  Bryant had caught Kyle Korver in the face when he threw up his elbow to clear room as he dribbled.

No foul was called at the time, much like the two earlier incidents with Ginobili and Jaric.  Also similar to the two other incidents, Korver expressed surprise at the decision, saying “It’s no big deal.”

Although the play was never in danger of causing Bryant another league-mandated suspension, it did attribute one point to Bryant’s flagrant foul total, as the play was deemed a level 1 flagrant foul.  As this is Bryant’s first flagrant foul of the season, he is nowhere near the total of five that must accumulate in order to require suspensions.

Still, the Lakers have been making the ESPN headlines for their dirty play and not their playoff push, which is dismal.  The loss to Philadelphia put the Lakers at 33-30, and ended their horrible road trip with yet another loss.

You won’t have to elbow anybody to get Lakers tickets at StubHub.com.  There are plenty of great seats available, all of which should be out of Kobe’s flail range.

Kobe Worries About Dirty Player Rep

Kobe Bryant contends that he got a “raw deal” from NBA vice president Stu Jackson, who handed him a one-game suspension for hitting Marko Jaric in the face with his elbow.

Kobe is concerned with not wanting to appear to be a dirty player.  Said Bryant, “Accidents happen.  I think they need to make that distinction.”

Although Stu Jackson has said that he can’t look at a player’s intention, only what happens on the court, the Lakers coaching staff has compiled “umpteen” different video clips of Kobe Bryant making similar follow through motions (like the ones that hit Ginobili and Jaric) after shot attempts, even when nobody is around.

Regardless of whether it is a habit or not, or whether it’s intentional or not, the fact remains that you can’t hit people in the face.  It’s awful, I know.  Every day I have to drive through a school cross walk, but if I run over those kids, I’d be in big trouble.  Even though I’ve done it before a few times.

I feel for you, Kobe.

But the fact remains; rules are rules, even for stars.  If Kobe’s flailing is clearly a regular basketball move, why doesn’t this kind of incident happen more often with other players?  Why only with Kobe? I wonder.

As for the dirty player rep, I’m sure nobody would ever think that.  Not Mike Miller, nor Melvin Ely, nor Chris Childs, nor Reggie Miller. No.  I think your rep is safe, Kobe. You’re just a clean wholesome boy who likes clean wholesome fun, sans wife and consent.

So long as Kobe doesn’t intentionally or unintentionally bloody anything tonight, we can expect Lakers tickets to their homecoming game versus Dallas on Sunday to include a glimpse of Bryant focusing on his follow through. Check out StubHub.com for tickets to what should be a tough night.
