The Los Angeles Lakers were graded on their handling of the NBA Draft the other day by ESPN.com writer Chad Ford. You probably could have guessed how the grading went. It won’t be a surprise to find out that the grade reflects a good-but-not-great attitude. The Lakers picked up a point guard in the first round named Javaris Crittenton, as well as Sun Yue and Marc Gasol in the second round.
Ford gives the Lakers a B+ because he liked the pick of Crittenton for his size and shooting ability, which he thinks will fit in well with Phil Jackson’s offense. Yue and Gasol were probably the best two picks they could have made at that point in the draft. Neither will probably make much of a difference in the Lakers’ 2007 season.
The question I’d like to know the answer to is this: what picks the Lakers could have made that would have given them an A? At the time the Lakers chose, they didn’t have too many options. Crittenton, to me, was the best pick they could have made. Kevin Garnett was not in the Draft.
