Lakers’ Kwame Brown faces new charges that ‘take the cake;’ what’s in store for Brown, Lakers?

NBA star and LA Lakers teammember Kwame Brown, 25, was arrested in Valdosta, Georgia, for disorderly conduct and interference of an officer after the car in which he was a passenger was pulled over and the driver - acquaintance Charles Edward Warren, 23 - was arrested for driving under the influence, license violation and for traveling down the wrong side of the road, according to a report published Monday, Oct. 1 in the Valdosta Daily Times. Run ins with the police are nothing new for the former Washington Wizards player who now is a center for the Lakers. In July 2006, Brown was acquitted of sexual assault charges, after a woman claimed the NBA star allegedly assaulted her after she admits that she participated in “some consensual activity” with Brown, according to a story published in July 2006 by the Associated Press. Then, in January of this year, the star was accused of stealing a man’s $190 birthday cake and then throwing the large 2′ by 2′ desert at him. This incident was a misunderstanding, according to Brown, who said he mistaked the cake for teammate Ronny Turiaf’s, who had been out with him that night in celebration of Turiaf’s birthday. Brown was acquitted of any charges and apologized to the birthday cake man by taking him out to dinner.

The facts surrounding Brown’s recent arrest, however, do not seem like they could be easily mistakable for what actually happened although no new information about the case has been published, except that Brown and driver Warren have both been released on bail from The Lowndes County Jail. No information has been released about what the charges mean for the player’s career as center for Lakers but because of an injury and recent surgery, Brown has for the time being has continued to be placed on the injured list. The Lakers, on their way to training camp Monday, Oct. 1 in Hawaii with Kobe Bryant in tow after weeks of specuation that the NBA MVP might not show, are a team that still have much potential for the season ahead but are still lookin to make some changes with team members’ positions and lineups.
