Nearly eight months ago Lakers center Andrew Bynum suffered a knee injury that ended his season early, but he is rapidly recovering and ready to get back on the court. The Lakers added Pau Gasol in Bynum’s absence but Bynum is eager for the season to begin and sees Gasol as an asset rather then a threat, saying that they will form a great defensive duo on the court as a “Twin Towers” team. Bynum’s positive attitude can be attributed to his deepened appreciation for the game after his injury made him realize how easily things can be taken away.
Bynum dislocated his left knee and suffered a bone bruise last January after stepping on Lamar Odom’s foot during a rebound in a game versus Memphis and remained on the bench throughout the rest of the season (despite hopes that he would be able to play in the NBA Playoffs). Bynum underwent surgery in New York in May and, after watching the Lakers lose to the Celtics in the playoffs, returned east for more rehabilitation. Trainer Sean Zarzana worked Bynum in Atlanta and although he participated in 2-on-2 and 2-on-3 games he has yet to test his knee in a full-court scenario. Bynum begins working with Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis on Monday and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be on hand for further workouts.
