ESPN.com’s experts have predicted that the Lakers will be the number one seed in the Western Conference once again in 2008-2009. The team of experts projected the Lakers to win 55 games in this upcoming season, two less than in last year’s campaign. The projections saw the New Orleans Hornets coming in just behind the Lake Show with 54 wins. The third seed in the projections went to Houston, Utah came in at four and San Antonio, Phoenix, Dallas and Portland rounded out the playoff teams. The projections would have the Lakers playing the upstart Blazers in the first round of the playoffs and, provided they win that matchup, would face the winner of a Jazz-Spurs matchup in the second round.
This blogger agrees that the Lakers should be the best team in the west and, frankly, the best team in the association. With a returning Andrew Bynum, the Lakers should be much tougher inside, something they were exposed of being short on in the finals. They’re one of the deepest teams thanks to a solid bench to go along with probably the best starting lineup in the league. Kobe Bryant should be hungry as he’s been unable to secure the elusive sans Shaq championship.
