Lakers Wrap Up Trip with a Victory

After an upset in Charlotte earlier in the week, the Lakers ended their trip with a 104-98 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday at Bradley Center. The Lakers finished at 5-2 on their longest trip of the season and are within 2 1/2 games of Cleveland for the league’s best record. Kobe Bryant told the L.A. Times, “We had two tough games, but we bounced back from that. We don’t let those losses get past two. It was a good trip.”

After a two-game losing streak the Lakers (59-16) avoided their first three-game losing streak since they acquired Pau Gasol last season. The first three quarters of the game were uneventful, with Bryant joking to the reporters “Y’all look like you need something to write about,” but in the fourth quarter the Lakers outscored the Bucks 24-17 with Gasol scoring eight of his 15 points and Kobe completing a late three-point play that gave them cushion.

Bobcats Have a Hold on Lakers

After a promising 4-0 start on their longest trip of the season, the Lakers again failed to beat the Charlotte Bobcats in a 94-84 loss Tuesday at Time Warner Cable Arena. The Lakers (58-16) are 12 days into their 13-day trip and were simply unable to keep up with the NBA’s second-lowest scoring offense. L.A.’s biggest competition, Cleveland (61-13) won its 13th consecutive game and moved three games ahead of the Laker’s for the NBA’s top record. Both the Lakers and the Cavaliers each have 8 regular-season games left.

Lakers’ Coach Phil Jackson told the L.A. Times, “We said we’d push on to 60 [victories]. Are we there yet? Not quite. So we’ll probably push on to 60, is what we’ll do. I think that feels to me like the right thing to do.” The Lakers offered no explanation as to why the Bobcats (34-40) have won six of the last seven games between the two teams.
